Last week on Tuesday 26th November, we had the pleasure of hosting our Annual General Meeting in The Hub, nestled within our Independent Living Units. It was a night of reflection, celebration, and looking toward the future.
Outgoing chair Richard Rubira set the tone for the evening by introducing the newly appointed Board Leadership team, underscoring the strength of our leadership as we move forward.
CEO Alex McKenna delivered an inspiring address, reflecting on a year filled with accomplishments and milestones. Daniel Whipps provided a detailed update on the progress of our much anticipated Stage 2 Development, a testament to Cooinda’s growth and vision for the future.
We took a moment to honour our incredible staff, volunteers, and Board members for their dedication and achievements, including significant training milestones and years of service that reflect the heart of Cooinda’s mission.
Finance Manager Ryan Claxton also shared an insightful overview of Cooinda’s financial standing, highlighting our commitment to growth.

We were also deeply moved as Alex McKenna read a heartfelt letter, “A Step Back in Time,” penned by Pauline Hooper, who has been a part of Cooinda for an incredible 40 years. A huge thank you to Pauline for not only writing such a beautiful reflection on Cooinda’s journey through the years, but also for planning and cooking the amazing food served on the night. The delicious food received countless compliments and made the evening even more memorable!
The evening also marked the launch of the Diana Chomley Scholarship Fund, a heartfelt initiative by Angus Howell in loving memory of his late wife, Diana Chomley, a cherished past resident of Cooinda. This scholarship will support the further education of Cooinda’s dedicated nursing and care staff, empowering them to continue providing exceptional care to Cooinda’s residents.
