Dementia care

Our professional Cooinda team are trained to provide excellence in individualised, innovative dementia care.  Most of all, we respect the needs of the person living with dementia, their family and friends.

Dementia is a term for a variety of symptoms not a disease. Today there are over 60 different conditions are known to cause the symptoms of dementia.

A person’s symptoms and behaviour is the focus when diagnosed, with their current needs or abilities often forgotten.

Furthermore, it can often seem there’s very little that can be done to help.  As a result, it can be very hard for the individual and their family and friends to stay positive.

At Cooinda, we focus on the person and their needs, abilities and wishes, not the symptoms of dementia.

Innovative Dementia Care

We undertake training in the latest and most innovative dementia care mapping.  This is technique where we observe an individual over a period of hours.  During that time, we note the activities that lift the person’s mood and engages them.  Using these observations, we attempt to shift the focus away from their symptoms and behaviours.  As a result, the individual is encouraged in their strengths and abilities to energise and engage them.

Our Cooinda Health and Wellbeing team bring fun activities and social connection.  This encourages positive feelings of joy, hope and improved well being.

Norm Matthews Memory Support Unit

Our dedicated memory support unit is designed with your care in mind.  Researched and developed in conjunction with dementia specialists, the Norm Matthews Memory Support unit offers a calming and content environment, which brings out the best in people living with dementia.  A central area for dining and the delivery of daily activities encourages social connection.  Most importantly, individual rooms with a private ensuite have space for your personal items, so you feel at home.
